Sports psychology is about and mastery of our thoughts, feelings and actions in our sports performance and personal performance . It's based on two very simple tenets: 1) we are in charge of our thoughts, feelings and actions, and 2) whatever we practice is what we habituate, whether we're talking about physical skill, emotional control, or mental toughness.
From a sports psychology perspective, if we allow old thought patterns and others' actions to control our thoughts and feelings, we're still in charge. We're just choosing to allow our past history and other people to control us. If we keep dwelling on old memories of how we've failed, we're practicing failing. Sports performance, personal performance, business performance - the principles are the same.
Taking charge of the beliefs we hold, the thoughts we have, and the emotions we feel puts us in charge of the actions we take when we're competing or performing. It can be difficult and challenging to do. But when we do, finally we're in charge. And when we take charge, we take charge of our destiny!
